Professional learning that connects directly with classroom teaching

Professional learning is most useful when it changes what teachers notice, plan and do. LTD sessions use real mathematical ideas, visual models and lesson examples so staff can take the learning back into the classroom straight away.

Subject knowledge and pedagogy together

Knowing the mathematics and knowing how to teach it are closely connected. LTD CPD explores concepts, representations, common misconceptions, strategy development and classroom questions together.

Teachers leave with a clearer understanding and practical examples, not a list of broad principles to interpret alone.

CPD formats

On-demand masterclasses: Topic-focused sessions teachers can access when they need them.

Live online workshops: Interactive sessions for individual teachers, schools or groups of schools.

Whole-school CPD: Training connected with curriculum priorities, LTD implementation and classroom practice.

Modelled lessons: See the teaching in action and discuss the decisions behind it.

Maths-lead support: Develop curriculum leadership, planning, assessment and staff learning.

On-site professional development: Face-to-face work tailored to the school or trust, subject to location and agreement.

Core professional learning themes

  • Early number and additive thinking
  • Place value, unitising and renaming
  • Addition and subtraction strategies
  • Multiplication and division
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Visual models and manipulatives
  • Fluency, reasoning and problem solving
  • Diagnostic assessment
  • Intervention
  • Whole-school curriculum planning

Built into the lesson collection

Every LTD lesson includes teacher guidance and mathematical background. The modelled videos explain key decisions and show resources in use. This means professional learning can happen during normal planning as well as through formal training.

Plan CPD around evidence

Schools get more value when professional learning is connected with pupil work, assessment and teacher questions. A place value session is more useful when staff can examine where pupils are struggling and agree how representations will be used afterwards.

What schools should expect

Each proposal should state the intended outcomes, format, duration, audience, preparation, follow-up and resources. Avoid describing a single session as complete implementation when ongoing leadership work is required.
